Poly dimethylsiloxane as a Non-volatile Reaction Medium

To date there have been very few investigations into non-volatile liquid polymers other than PEG used in chemical reactions. PPG has been used to some 

PDMS and PMPS possess low toxicities and are widely used in consumer products, but there are conflicting reports on their biodegradation. UV absorbance measurements show that PMPS has a polarity intermediate 

PDMS has also been used as a reaction medium in the preparation of polymeric dispersions. In these examples, an epoxy end group functionalized PDMS was used and an oil-in-oil emulsion was formed with the reacting monomer (vinyl acetate or vinyl pyrrolidone). There are likely to be further advances in this area during the next few years.
