There are several areas to consider when discussing the future of the food can. Anti-pollution legislation, new can-making technologies, and public safety aspects will have a pronounced effect on food container design. [Pg.14]

The advent of the newer physical methods of separation and identification, together with the impetus given to the field by the imposition of anti-pollution legislation, has resulted in a flood of new and often unproven methods. While most of these methods were specifically designed to measure materials added to the environment by man s activities, in many cases they have added greatly to our knowledge of the naturally occurring compounds as well. [Pg.379]

The particular role of the Part IIA system is to ensure that land is suitable for use in the context of its current use and setting. Previous statutory regimes have been in place for similar purposes—most noticeably and recently, the anti-pollution works provisions in the Water Resources Act 19914 and the statutory nuisance system in the Environmental Protection Act 1990.5 But following a policy review in 1993 and 1994,6 the then Government considered that a modern, specific contaminated land power was needed,7 and legislated accordingly in the Environment Act 1995. [Pg.23]
