Shults (186) has described a two step procedure for the determination of plutonium from acid solution in the presence of interferences. The plutonium is first reduced to plutonium (III) at a potential of 0.56 V (presumably vs SCE) and then re-oxidized to plutonium (IV) at 0.88 V the integrated current required for oxidation gives the amount of plutonium in the sample. The same author has also proposed an indirect procedure involving the controlled-potential generation of iron (II) as an intermediate reagent (187). Applications of these techniques to the determination of plutonium in irradiated uranium fuels and for the measurement of formal oxidation potentials have been discussed by Peekema and Scott (188) and Stromatt and co-workers (189), respectively. [Pg.62]
