Plunger, extension

Capillary rheometers are used extensively to measure viscosity in the intermediate to high shear rate range. The rheometer has for all practical purposes a lower limit in viscosity measurement because of the plunger seals. These seals are shown on the bottom of the plunger in Fig. 3.16, and they induce a frictional resistance when they are pushed through the rheometer barrel. The piston force can be evaluated without polymer in the barrel, but it is always a source of error at low viscosities because of experimental variability. Moreover, barrel friction is one of the critical corrections that must be made when evaluating viscosity measurements... [Pg.80]

An air inflated-pressurized flexible-type envelope can replace the plunger. This process provides higher glass content and decreases chance of voids. Limitations include extensive trimming and only one good surface. [Pg.478]

The solenoid has a metal extension screwed, welded or brazed to the plunger so it will push the trigger when it is... [Pg.75]

The poor corrosion resistance of borides may be partially overcome in composites with SiC if the microstructure allows passive oxidation kinetics. In combination with SiC the borides retain their high electrical and thermal conductivity and thus suitable thermal shock resistance. SiC-TiB2 composites have been extensively developed for wear parts in machinery such as sliding rings, valves, valve seats, roller and ball bearings, plungers, and rocker arm pads. [Pg.933]
