Matched-die molding n. A reinforced plastic manufacturing process in which close-fitting metal matching male and female molds are used to form the part using pressure, temperature, and time cycle. [Pg.599]

Thermal conductivity is essential in almost every heat transfer calculation, from such basic applications as component heat conduction and dissipation to the complex computer programs used to simulate plastic manufacturing processes. Plastics fall into the category of materials of intermediate thermal conductivity (0.15-0.4 W/m-K). They are an order of magnitude more conductive than foams and insulation but about five times less conductive than ceramics and glass. This puts them in a unique class by themselves, making this measurement quite important. A number of techniques are available, arising from two basic philosophies as described below. [Pg.38]

The constraints on design imposed by the processes for manufacture have been covered in this chapter for a number of the widely used plastics manufacturing processes. The first step in product design should be the selection of the material and manufacturing process. Not all processes were covered, just those that are most frequently met in design practice. The basic process limitations were discussed... [Pg.188]

Polycarbonates can be processed with common plastic manufacturing processes. Technologies like injection molding, extrusion and casting bear good shaping opportunities. In comparison to transparent polymers like PMMA or PET, polycarbonates show extraordinary transparency, strength and endurance. [Pg.71]

Matched Metal Molding. A reinforced plastics manufacturing process in which matching male and female metal molds are used (similar to compression molding) to form the part. [Pg.357]

While new techniques continue to be studied and tested, there is a general acceptance that to be a successful processor over the long term one needs to understand the process as well as one can develop and execute an effective monitoring and control strategy. To survive and flourish in the plastics industry manufacturers simply cannot afford to rely on a black art approach to the plastic manufacturing processes. [Pg.394]

The design of a plastic part and the selection of the plastics manufacturing process are extremely interdependent it is critical to match the plastic part design to the capabihties of the plastics manufacturing process. For example, a plastic part designed for injection molding will not be interchangeable with a... [Pg.600]

Every plastic manufacturing process can have an effect on materiid properties. [Pg.155]
