Plant safety programs

Plant safety programs should be designed to preclude those conditions which are known to result in worker injury. Plantwide safety programs include guides, rules, procedures, and policies for a plantwide spectrum of concerns usually including vehicle safety, environmental concerns, substance abuse, confined space safety, and so forth. A key portion of all of these programs include fabrication shop safety.

Chapter 7, Plant Safety Programs and Auxiliary Topics, covers plantwide systems and more general programs whose purpose is the improvement of the overall plant safety performance. 

OSHA has more direct impact on day-to-day operation and on specifics of plant safety programs than does EPA. Administration of OSHA programs is through ten regional offices. Their addresses are given in Table 7-4.
