All the experimental bank voles (Clethrionomys glareolus) and European pine voles (Pitymys subterraneus) came from outbred stock colonies reared in our laboratory. Animals were maintained in metal cages (40 x 20 x 25 cm) at 18-20°C, in a 10 14 photoperiod schedule and fed with natural food (oats, wheat, apples and red beets). Wood shavings were provided as bedding and nesting material. [Pg.551]
