Integration of equation 7.81 to determine the pressure drop over a length of pipe generally requires a stepwise procedure. As with the homogeneous model, in some cases simplifications may be possible ... [Pg.252]

For reasons of confidentiality, exact details of the reactor designs have to remain undisclosed in this discussion. The final economic analysis, however, incorporates them in a 20% estimate of the major equipment cost. The installation factor, defined as the ratio of the final cost over the cost of major equipment items, is projected to be in the order of 2 here, as foundations, piping, general infrastructure will be far less extensive in this compact and highly physically integrated plant. Table 3.4 compares the cost of methanol produced for three cases ... [Pg.62]

Shah and Lee (31) presented an approach for predicting friction pressures of fracturing slurries that is based on an analytical method and uses nondimensional quantities. From flow data for various slurries in multiple pipes, generalized correlations were developed and presented that incorporated variables such as particle size, particle density, particle... [Pg.573]

Flow through a porous medium can be laminar, turbulent, or intermediate. The transition from laminar to turbulent flow is smoother and more reproducible than for flow in a pipe. Generally, the flow in filters, the flow of groundwater, and the flow in petroleum and natural-gas fields are laminar. [Pg.431]

Horizontal piping systems used to collect and transport well fluids introduce problems of phase separation resulting in stratified corrosive water and gas phases that complicate inhibition control and monitoring. In addition, there is the possibility of oxygen and bacterial (SRB) contamination that can accelerate corrosion. Control of internal corrosion of steel surface piping generally involves inhibition or plastic lining. [Pg.817]

The boiler is composed of a bundle of vertical pipes, generally 2 m high and with an internal diameter of 2 cm. The heating vapor condenses on the outside of the pipes, and it is in those tubes that the boiling takes place. From the very start of the operation, the device must be overdimensioned. If the lower part of the tubes is flooded with the condensate of the heating vapor, the boiler, whilst it may be oversized, will deliver the correct amount of thermal power. We merely need to gradually lower the level of condensate to increase the device s power. Naturally, if the heating system is electrical, we simply need to set the position of a rheostat to obtain the desired power. [Pg.128]

The physicians who documented Read s case explained that similar cases, of a more or less pronounced character, developed in the Chapel Hill neighborhood and other areas of Lowell. All of these cases were eventually traced to the use of water impregnated with lead. Not a small number of these cases terminatfed] fatally either before the cause was detected, or from an obstinate incredulity on this subject, which prevented its removal at a sufficiently early stage of the affection to admit recovery. Only when this disbelief was overcome [were] lead pipes generally removed [and] block tin or iron substituted Forth-... [Pg.164]

This is typically referred to as a continuous borehole. In some situations with small diameter product pipe or conduit, the pipe can be pulled straight into the pilot hole after the drill is completed. However, in most HDD operations the borehole has to be reamed to enlarge the hole to accommodate pulling in the product pipe. Generally the borehole is reamed to 1.5 times the outside diameter of the product pipe. The purpose of this is to provide an annular void between the product pipe and the drillhole for the drilling fluids and spoils and for the bending radius of the product pipe. [Pg.143]

The corrosion allowance on piping generally is only one-half that provided for other pieces of refinery equipment. [Pg.376]

Loop-piping generalized corrosion rate except pump 0.9 mpy at 10 fps. Pump-impeller (7.8 in. dia) wt. loss 27 g at 90 fps (50-100 mil rim pits)... [Pg.254]

Although the combination of analyses for the PWS piping generally meet the SER restart criteria, several issues require resolution before K-Reaetor restart. [Pg.189]
