Exchange Pigments

Additionally, purple bacterial LHCs have been extensively studied by site-directed mutagenesis and pigment exchange methods and the specific protein-pigment interactions determining BChl binding and complex formation have been identified and characterized. " The... [Pg.46]

Also, nylon-6 waste may be hydrolyzed in the presence of an aqueous alkali metal hydroxide or acid5 to produce an alkali metal or acid salt of 6-aminocaproic acid (ACA). The reaction of nylon-6 waste with dilute hydrochloric acid is rapid at 90- 100°C. The reaction mixture is poured into water to form a dilute aqueous solution of the ACA salt. Filtration is used to remove undissolved impurities such as pigments, additives, and fillers followed by treatment of the acid solution with a strong cation exchange resin. A sulfonic acid cationic exchanger absorbs ACA salt and pure ACA is eluted with ammonium hydroxide to form a dilute aqueous solution. Pure ACA is obtained by crystallization of die solution. [Pg.541]

The retina comprises two principal components, the non-neural retinal pigment epithelium and the neural retina. The retinal pigment epithelium is an essential component of the visual system both structurally and functionally. It is important for the turnover and phagocytosis of photoreceptor outer segments, the metabolism of retinoids, the exchange of nutrients between the photoreceptors, and the choroidal blood vessels and the maintenance of an efficient outer blood-retinal barrier. [Pg.134]

Water is used in the chrome pigment industry mainly to cool most of the equipment such as heat exchangers, generate steam in the boilers, make slurry of raw materials, scrub the reactor vent... [Pg.929]

Some other types of treatment processes can be employed in the chrome pigment industry in order to achieve safer industrial practices in terms of pollution. Processes such as ion exchange, biological oxidation, and use of glass for filtration before settling have potential application in this industry. [Pg.930]

The effectiveness of zinc is related to its associated anion (Table 7) the chloride, acetate, or benzoate salts were the most effective. The maximum effectiveness of the metal would be expected if the exchange reaction with the pigment surface was... [Pg.154]

Such a process can naturally be expected to play a certain part in the mechanism of directed energy transport in biological systems, in particular, in the transfer of absorbed energy from the antenna chlorophyll molecules to the reactive center in the photosynthetic system of plants. In Ref. [30], energy exchange between molecules of the photosynthetic pigments chlorophyll a and pheophytin a was studied experimentally with pigments introduced into the polar matrix. [Pg.199]
