Phthalocyaninato complexes

Several excellent reviews are available covering different scientific purposes and technological applications of phthalocyanines [46-51]. Here, we focus on synthetic aspects of one particular type of Pc-derivative, namely bis(phthalocyaninato) complexes of trivalent lanthanides, as well as analogous heteroleptic complexes containing porphyrin and porphyrin-like ligands.

A new Cr111 phthalocyaninato complex rCr(pc)I] (110) has been synthesized (Scheme 12a) and characterized by X-ray crystallography.4 Another crystallographically characterized complex, rra i-[Cr(pc)(ONO)2] (pc = phthalocyaninato(2-)), has been synthesized using [Cr(pc)(OH2)2]+ as a precursor.489 A general synthetic method for the [Cr(pc)(X)2] complexes has been developed (Scheme 12b), and spectral (electronic and vibrational) and electrochemical properties of these complexes have been compared.490...

For instance the characteristics of Langmuir-Blodgett films using noncentrosymmetrically substituted phthalocyaninato complexes carrying different substituents have been studied (Fig. 24) [189]. 

Lanthanoids bis-phthalocyaninato complexes are usually synthetized by condensation of dicyanobenzenes in the presence of Lu(IIl) salts. This synthetic way is not veiy convenient for the preparation of unsymmetrical sandwiches as it leads to many substituted derivatives which separation from the reaction medium is veiy difficult.
