Phosphorus trisulphide

Commercial phosphorus trisulphide is largely PiS,. Phosphorus hepta-Rulphide is available inter alia from the Oldbury Electrochemical Company. [Pg.836]

Phosphorus Trisulphide (P2S3).—The calculated quantities of dry amorphous phosphorus and sulphur are carefully melted together in a fireclay crucible. The product is then cooled and broken up. [Pg.511]

Phosphorus trichloride reacts with liquid hydrogen sulphide to produce phosphorus trisulphide at ordinary temperatures.2... [Pg.94]

Thiophene has been synthesized by heating sodium succinate with phosphorus trisulphide —... [Pg.575]

Jacob Volhard (Darmstadt, 4 June 1834-Halle, 14 January 1910) was assistant to Liebig in Munich, Hofmann in London, and Kolbe in Marburg. He was assistant (1863), and associate professor (1869), in Munich, professor at Erlangen (1882) and Halle. He synthesised sarcosine, and creatinine by a method suggested by Strecker (1861), devised the thiocyanate silver titration, and (with H. Erdmann) synthesised thiophene by heating a mixture of sodium succinate and phosphorus trisulphide. ... [Pg.335]

Arsenic monosulphide AsS (or AS2S2), phosphorus sulphides, phosphorus sesquisulphide P4S3 and phosphorus trisulphide P4S6 have no action on aluminium at room temperamre. [Pg.381]

In the presence of water, phosphorus trisulphide P4S6 decomposes under formation of phosphoric acid and thus attacks aluminium. On the other hand, phosphorus sesquisulphide P4S3 is insoluble in water and does not attack aluminium even in the presence of humidity. [Pg.381]
