Phosphorus oxides, sulfides, selenides and related compounds

Phosphorus oxides, sulfides, selenides and related compounds [Pg.503]

By contrast to the plethora of simple oxo-halides and thiohalides of P, the corresponding derivatives of P are fugitive species that require matrix isolation techniques for preparation and characterization ClPO, BrPO, FPS and BrPS all form non-linear triatomic molecules, as expected. The corresponding oxosulfide, BrP(0)S, and its thio-analogue, FP(S)S, have also recently been isolated. [Pg.503]

P4O6 is obtained by controlled oxidation of P4 in an atmosphere of 75% O2 and 25% N2 at 90mmHg and 50° followed by distillation of the product from the mixture. Careful [Pg.503]

Similar trends are apparent in the dimensions of the other members of the series P40e+ shown in Fig. 12.14. In addition, ring angles at P (96-103°) are always less than those at O (122-132°), as expected. [Pg.504]

Sulfur-nitrogen compounds are described in Section 16.10, and in this section we look at the molecular sulfides and selenides formed by phosphorus. Although the structures of the sulfides (Fig. 15.24) appear to be closely related to those of the oxides (Section 15.10), there are some notable differences, e.g. P4O6 and P4S6 are not isostructural. The bond distances within the cages of aU the sulfides... [Pg.538]
