Phosphorus-halogen bond

Only two examples are known in which HFA inserts into a phosphorus-halogen bond. While PF2CI, PF3, and POF2Br are inert even at elevated temperatures, insertion into the P—X bond is observed in Pp2Br and PF2I (777).

The chemical properties of PBrs are similar to those of PCI3, although there is a difference in reactivity due to the difference in the degree of polarity of the phosphorus-halogen bonds. PI3 is a powerful and versatile deoxygenating agent, effecting the conversion of selenoxides (R,R SeO) into selenides, for example. ... 

In this flowchart, the skeletons of 643 compounds -which their crystal structures were deposited- have been collected. In this classification, the phosphoramidates containing the phosphorus-carbon and the phosphorus-halogen bonds have not been considered. 

For example, a difunctional reagent (a diamine or diol) could crosslink the chains. Third, as mentioned previously, the possibility exists that the cleavage of phosphorus-nitrogen skeletal bonds might become competitive with phosphorus-halogen bond cleavage. A few examples will illustrate some of the specific restrictions that have been identified.
