Phosphines isocyanides

Mixed phosphine isocyanide complexes [Co(CNR)3phos2] and [Co-(CNR)4diphos], (the former were alluded to earlier (ref. 90, p. 185)), are reported to be obtained from Co(phos)2Cl2 and isocyanides (50). A vinyl isocyanide complex [Co(CNC2H3)5] is reported (94).

The rhenium(III) complexes with phosphine, isocyanide, and nitrogen ligands are molecular species, the metal atom being seven-coordinate. Solutions in nitrobenzene are non-conducting. The crystal structure of ReBr3(CN tol)4 and ReBr3(CO)2(bipy) are known.

The tripalladium mixed-valence Pd3(2/3) and Pd3(4/3), Pd(II) and Pd(0) clusters may be formed with a range of phosphines, isocyanides, or carbonyls as terminal ligands and carbonyls, nitrosyls, isocyanides, sulfur dioxide, phosphides, phosphines or diphosphines, halides, thiolates as doubly or triply bridging ligands. The complex [Pt(CH3)2(l,5-cod)] (1,5-cod = l,S-cyclooctadiene) is widely used as a source of the Pt(CH3)2 moiety since the l,S-cyclooctadiene is readily substituted by phosphines, isocyanides, pyridines, and other ligands. Its volatility and clean thermal decomposition have led to its use in MOCVD experiments and as a source of finely dispersed platinum for heterogeneous catalysis.
