Phenolic Steroids Oestrogens

Lisboa and Diczealusy [112, 113] have carried out the most thorough systematic investigation of the separation and characterisation of phenolic steroids, (24 in all) by means of TLC on silica gel. Various derivatives and microreactions involved in their preparation were also included in the study, as well as a couple of dozen colour reactions of 32 of these compounds. 

Diamantstein and Lorcher [45a], Takexjchi [167] and StIrka [157] have reported other systematic studies. AU this work has, however. 

Struck [165] and Jacobsohn [92, 93] have worked on the quantitative determination of oestrogens in TLC, using spectrophotometric and photogram-densitometric methods respectively. 

Jung and co-workers [95] have quoted a shortened procedure with only a single TLC stage on silica gel, using benzene-ether (40 + 60) and Kober-reaction on the eluates. 

Along with the manifold possibilities for control of reactions and purity in chemical synthesis, the separation of oestrogens from equol [81] and detection of oestrogens in sesame oil preparations [101] may be quoted as further examples of application of TLC.
