Phase Transformation Line

It can be summarized that c-BN is the stable phase at room temperature but there are still discrepancies about the phase transformation lines and thermodynamic data. Several review articles draw conclusions from the available results (Fig. 7) [11, 41, 51-54] but there are also new results describing c-BN as metastable at standard conditions [55]. [Pg.11]

ABSTRACT The kinetics and mechanisms of the phase transformation of 2-line ferrihydrite to goethite and hematite are being assessed as a function of pH, temperature and Fe/As, Fe/Se, Fe/Mo molar ratios using batch experiments, BET analyses, XRD, and XANES. Initial results from XRD analyses show that ferrihydrite is stable at high pH ( 10) for up to seven days at 25°C, but considerable crystallization occurs at elevated temperatures. Specifically, XRD data show that ferrihydrite is transformed to a mixture of hematite and goethite at 50°C (-85% hematite and -15% goethite) and 75°C (-95% hematite and -5% goethite) after 24 hours and these ratios remain constant to the end of the experiments (seven days). [Pg.335]

Another issue with ScSZ is that there is a decrease in conductivity at around 580°C as indicated by broken lines in two of the curves for higher scandia contents, 10.0 to 12.0 mol%. With high scandia contents, the cubic phase transforms to a lower conductivity rhombohedral phase, the p phase, at lower temperatures [25], The phase change can be avoided by limiting the scandia content to 8 mole% [25] or by codoping with other oxides, such as those of bismuth [36] or ytterbium [37],... [Pg.11]

The Cu-Zn system (see Figure 2.7) displays a number of intermediate solid solutions that arise due to limited solubility between the two elements. For example, at low wt% Zn, which incidently is the composition of alloys known as brass, the relatively pure copper a phase is able to accommodate small amounts of Zn as an impurity in the crystal structure. This is known as a terminal solid phase, and the solubility limit where intermediate solid solutions (such as a + /S) begin to occur is called the solvus line. Some of the three-phase transformations that are found in this diagram include a peritectic (5 - - L -> e) and a eutectoid (5 -> y - - e). Remember that these three-phase transformations are defined for equilibrium coohng processes, not heating or nonequihbrium conditions. [Pg.159]

From the dynamic mechanical investigations we have derived a discontinuous jump of G and G" at the phase transformation isotropic to l.c. Additional information about the mechanical properties of the elastomers can be obtained by measurements of the retractive force of a strained sample. In Fig. 40 the retractive force divided by the cross-sectional area of the unstrained sample at the corresponding temperature, a° is measured at constant length of the sample as function of temperature. In the upper temperature range, T > T0 (Tc is indicated by the dashed line), the typical behavior of rubbers is observed, where the (nominal) stress depends linearly on temperature. Because of the small elongation of the sample, however, a decrease of ct° with increasing temperature is observed for X < 1.1. This indicates that the thermal expansion of the material predominates the retractive force due to entropy elasticity. Fork = 1.1 the nominal stress o° is independent on T, which is the so-called thermoelastic inversion point. In contrast to this normal behavior of the l.c. elastomer... [Pg.159]

Figure 4.20 shows the correlation of experimental data of Hammerschmidt (1939) with five inhibitors with the pressure and temperature axes reversed from their normal position. The striking feature of Figure 4.20 is the parallel nature of all experimental lines, for the inhibition effect of both alcohols and salts relative to pure water. The parallel solid lines provide some indication of the molecular nature of the inhibition. Normally a phase transformation is considered relative to the change in Gibbs free energy defined as ... [Pg.230]
