Pharmaceutical caplets

Depending on properties of the manufactured products, plasticizers must fiilfil a number of secondary functions. According to the Handbook of Poisoning and Toxicology published by the American Pharmaceutical Association, the dose of acetaminophen causing hepatotoxicity is 150 mg/kg. In an adult weighing 70 kg, this would represent the ingestion of about 10.5 g or 21 acetaminophen caplets, each containing 500 mg. 

As observed, pharmaceutical. suspensions can be therapeutically useful in almost any disease treatment. In most cases, suspensions of different compounds can be used in the same field, with similar efficiencies. Furthermore, most of the drugs cited can also be given in the form of caplets, tablets, parenteral suspensions...

In processes illustrated on these figures, plasticizers are required for final product performance to increase elastic properties of manufactured products. Gloves are coated with rubber latex. Its viscosity is adjusted by the plasticizer. Caplet coating for pharmaceutical applications is done by immersion in a gelatin solution where water is solvent and processing plasticizer.
