Petroleum reductive dechlorination

Zwiemik, M.J., Quensen III, J.F. and Boyd, S.A. (1999) Residual petroleum in sediments reduces the bioavailability and rate of reductive dechlorination of Aroclor 1242. Environ. Sci. Technol., 33, 3574-3578. [Pg.162]

There are a number of compotmds besides the ones listed above that can be fermented to produce hydrogen. Sewell and Gibson (1991) noted that petroleum hydrocarbons support reductive dechlorination. In this case, the reductive dechlorination is driven by the fermentation of biodegradable compounds such as the BTEX compounds in fuels. Metabolism of BTEX compounds to produce hydrogen likely requires the involvement of several strains of bacteria. [Pg.878]

When other sediments known to support PCB dechlorination were inoculated with PCB-dechlorinating microorganisms and amended with incremental increases of pure petroleum hydrocarbons (0-4 wt%) or 6.2 % petroleum hydrocarbons extracted from Silver Lake sediments, a reduction in both the rate and extent of PCB dechlorination occurred. [Pg.404]
