Petroleum production and refining

Drilling, pumping, and transporting of crude oil invariably results in some spills of petroleum. These spills result in the introduction of aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons, and PAHs into surface and ground-waters. Many of the chemicals listed on the EPA s list of 129 priority water pollutants (see Section 8.8) enter drinking water sources. [Pg.83]

Petroleum Production and Refining. Specific polyamine derivatives are used in the petroleum production and refining industries as corrosion inhibitors, demulsifiers, neutralizers, and additives for certain operations. [Pg.48]

Application of fluidized catalyst techniques to the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis (30) has yielded a process that produces chiefly (about 70%) motor gasoline, with minor amounts (about 30%) of fuel oil and oxygenated compounds. The fluidized iron catalyst process is outstanding because of its very high space-time yield and because it may be competitive with existing petroleum production and refining processes, if natural gas at 10 cents or less per 1000 cubic feet is available as the raw material for synthesis gas production. [Pg.148]

Typical uses of martensitic steels are cutlery, surgical instrumentation blades (turbine engines) bearings, aerospace equipment petroleum production and refining fire arms, valves and stems and food processing equipment. [Pg.227]

Following are estimates of the atmospheric emissions and energy consumption associated with the raw materials acquisition and processing (logging, pulping, and papermaking for paper, petroleum production and refining and polymerization for polyethylene) and disposal of sacks, and for the manufacture and use of sacks. [Pg.340]

To maximize the cost-effectiveness of petroleum production and refining processes and to achieve required quality parameters of oil, water, and crude-oil contaminants, it is often necessary to resolve emulsions to promote complete separation of the oil, water, and inorganic solids present. Breaking... [Pg.322]

Foams can be found in almost every part of the petroleum production and refining process, from deep in the producing reserviors, through oilwell drilling, stimulation, and production, to downstream vessels in the refining process. In these cases the foams may occur naturally or by design and may be desirable or undesirable. In all cases the presence and nature of the foam can determine both the economic and technical successes of the industrial process concerned. [Pg.8]

The major industries that use corrosion inhibitors are petroleum production and refining, chemical and heavy industrial manufacturing, and the product additive industry. The usage summary of corrosion inhibitors in various industries is given in Table 4.9. [Pg.216]
