Peroxomonophosphoric acid

Peroxophosphoric Acids and Their Salts. In its usual impure form (H PO is the main contaminant), peroxomonophosphoric acid [13598-52-2] (5), is a viscous, coloress Hquid. The three ionization constants for peroxomonophosphoric acid are pifj = 1.1, P-A2 = 5.5, and pK (peroxide proton) = 12.8 (44). Oxidations comparable to those of peroxomonosulfuric acid, H2SO, occur in acid solutions of ca pH 2, but at higher pH values, H PO becomes less reactive as an oxidant and more unstable with respect to decomposition (44). The stmcture of H PO is probably similar to that of... [Pg.93]

Peroxomonophosphoric acid can be prepared by the hydrolysis of peroxodiphosphates ia aqueous acid and by the reaction of hydrogen peroxide with phosphorus pentoxide (45). It is not produced or used commercially and the salts that have been prepared are unstable and impure. [Pg.94]

P-A4 = 7.7 (47). The rates of hydrolysis of the peroxodiphosphate ion are dependent on both pH and temperature, eg, as the hydrogen ion concentration iacreases, the rate iacreases (48). Peroxodiphosphoric acid hydroly2es to peroxomonophosphoric acid according to the foUowiag equation ... [Pg.94]

Peroxomonophosphoric acid and peroxodiphosphoric acid have both been used to oxidize sulphoxides to sulphones. [Pg.977]

Peroxomonophosphoric acid (PMPA) oxidizes dimethyl sulphoxide in high yield in water and aqueous ethanol . In neutral solution the reaction mechanism was thought to be very complex but actually occurs by two different mechanisms that are very similar to those for sulphoxide oxidation by peracids in acidic and basic media. In an alkaline medium the mechanism involves nucleophilic attack by a phosphorus-containing species (probably POs ) on the sulphur atom of the sulphoxide, followed by O—O bond scission yielding the sulphone (equation 24). In acidic solution, on the other hand, the sulphoxide is the nucleophilic species as detailed in equation (25). It should be noted however that there is some evidence that these mechanisms are oversimplified since there are other nucleophilic species (such as H2P05 and HPO ") present in aqueous solutions of PMPA over a wide pH range . [Pg.978]

The extremely violent interaction of phosphorus(V) oxide and cone, hydrogen peroxide to give peroxomonophosphoric acid may be moderated by using acetonitrile as a diluent. [Pg.1640]

Interest has been shown in the oxides of dicyclopentadiene, as noted earlier, with reports of epoxidations using permaleic, perphthalic, " and peracetic acids. The mechanism of oxidation of fran -stilbene by peroxomonophosphoric acid (H3PO5) in a number of solvents has been investigated. A report on the epoxidation of a number of methoxy- and hydroxy-substituted cinnamaldehydes (24 R = = H, MeO, or OH) concludes with the suggestion that the... [Pg.5]

The kinetics of oxidation of bivalent manganese to the heptavalent state by peroxomonophosphoric acid has been investigated/ " In perchloric acid, the reaction rate is negligible without the addition of an appropriate catalyst.
