Peroxide Main Charges

In an example of how quickly technology travels from one terrorist group to another, the attacks in Casablanca, Morocco, in May of 2003 utilized a TATP formulation first seen a couple years earlier in Palestinian attacks in Israel. TATP has also become one of the main charges utilized by Communist terrorist groups in Turkey over the last couple of years. TATP charges ranging from 1 to 20 lb are not uncommon.

The two main oxidation states of chromium usually display opposite charges in their compounds. Chromium(VI) is particularly toxic and all operations are subject to stringent legislation in most countries with significant process industries. Chromium(III) is oxidized by hydrogen peroxide to chromium(VI) in neutral or alkaline conditions, but reduced from chromium (IV) to (III) in acid (Figure 6.4). 

The final decision has thus been made herein that, in order to measure the main heat transfer data of an arbitrary volume of an organic liquid peroxide charged in an arbitrary container and placed in the atmosphere under isothermal conditions, kerosene, a sort of nonconducting liquid, is used in place of every organic liquid peroxide. 

The main heat transfer data of 5 or 10 L of kerosene charged in the con espoiiding 5 or 10 L polyethylene practical container, which is set under conditions of no air circulation in an aluminium box maintained at a T ei-up near 50 and settled in a fairly large themiostat. have been measured in temperature differences of 1.25 K between the T , and the in almost the same manner as perfomicd for 400 mL of kerosene charged in the Dewar flask in Subsection 5.5.3 (Fig. 57). These containcis arc used by NOF Corporation, Japan, to deliver 5 or 10 kg each of organic liquid peroxides to the users, respectively. Ozone was added to the eye of a refiner to enhance the TMP quality and to reduce energy consumption by facilitating fiber separation [103]. The ozone mainly oxidized the wood extractives but, as well as saving energy, a 1-2% charge of ozone on the TMP rejects resulted in a higher pulp strength and improved subsequent peroxide bleachability.
