Periodic acid, collagen carbohydrate

C. Studies of Carbohydrates in Collagen Using Periodic Acid. ... [Pg.109]

Collagen is also present in certain modified forms. For example, collagen is present in basement membranes which also contain carbohydrates and fatty acids (Windnim et cd., 1955 Kefalides, 1968). Reticular fibers may be comprised of collagen only (very fine collagen fibers immediately after formation), or they may form the stroma of certain organs such as spleen and lymph nodes, in which case a carbohydrate constituent is identified with the periodic acid-Schiff stain. [Pg.307]
