There are a large number of windows of finite width within which the attracting set is a stable periodic cycle chaotic and periodic regions are in fact densely interwoven. The largest window - a snapshot of which is shown in figure 4.7-(b) -corresponds to a stable 3-cycle and spans the width 3.8284 < a < 3.8415 ... [Pg.183]

An alternative and more recent electroanalytical tool is square-wave voltammetry (which is probably now employed more often than normal or differential pulse voltammetry). In this technique, a potential waveform (see Figure 6.26) is applied to the working electrode. Pairs of current measurements are then made (depicted on the figure as t and f2) these measurements are made for each wave period ( cycle ), which is why they are drawn as times after to (when the cycle started). The current associated with the forward part of the pulse is called /forward, while the current associated with the reverse part is /reverse- A square-wave voltammogram is then just a graph of the difference between these two... [Pg.182]

The sinusoidal output signal produced by the SCN can be described by its period (cycle length), phase (position in the cycle), and amplitude (range between highest and lowest signal). The output amplitude reflects the strength or robustness of the circadian timing system, which can also be described as the drive to restore homeostasis in response to stimuli or the extent to which circadian behavior is separated into distinct periods of activity and rest within one cycle [1-3]. [Pg.198]

The effect of feed composition cycling on the time-average rate and temperature profile was explored in the region of integral conversion in a laboratory fixed bed ammonia synthesis reactor. Experiments were carried out at 400°C and 2.38 MPa over 40/50 US mesh catalyst particles. The effect of various cycling parameters, such as cycle-period, cycle-split, and the mean composition, on the improvement in time-average rate over the steady state were investigated. [Pg.97]

Figure 1 a - Experimental setup the neutrons leave the moderator, are scattered by the sample under an angle and give a signal in the detector. The analyzer foils are periodically cycled in between sample and detector, b - A typical TOF spectrum of a 20 80 H2O - D2O mixture in an Al can (error bars) together with the corresponding fit (full line). The H and D recoil peaks are well separated from each other and from the joint O / Al peak. [Pg.485]

The SMB process is a dynamic process operating on periodic cycles which makes it a challenging optimization problem. The IPOPT optimizer (Wachter and Biegler, 2006) was used within the IND-NIMBUS software (as an underlying optimizer) to produce new Pareto optimal solutions. The IPOPT optimizer was chosen because it has been developed for solving large scale optimization problems. [Pg.174]

In soils of arid climates, higher electrolyte concentrations favor Na and adsorption on exchange sites. Regardless of climate, periodic cycles of soil wetting and drying are likely to produce wide fluctuations in electrolyte concentrations, with the result that the cationic composition of the soil s exchange sites is not constant. [Pg.77]

In recent years the ALFG has become a popular generator for serial as well as scalable parallel machines because it is easy to implement, is inexpensive to compute, and does well on standard statistical tests [11], especially when the lag is sufficiently high (such as = 1279). The maximal period of the ALFG is (2 — l)2m 1 [26,27] and has 2№ 1,x(m 1) different full-period cycles [28]. Another advantage of the ALFG is that one can implement... [Pg.26]

The olefin selectivity decreased with an increase in the period (figure 15). In this figure, the change in olefin selectivity is expressed as the change from the steady state conditions prior to the cyclic operations (ss in figure 15). When the periodic cycling started, there was a decrease in the percentage of... [Pg.208]
