For completeness, let us note that if the volume fraction of the dispersed phase becomes sufficiently large, it is expected that the interactions between the globules will affect their shape. As these Interactions become greater, a percolation threshold occurs. The electrical conductivity of the system increases steeply at the threshold because of the transient interconnections between an infinite number of globules of water. [Pg.22]

Transmission/Scanning Electron Microscopy (TEM/SEM) and other measurements indicate that many composites are actually fine-particulate dispersions of the CP in the host polymer, with these dispersed particles achieving interconnection at the percolation threshold. A few composites turn out to be simply thin CP coatings on fine particulates of the host polymer. And a very few are simply aggregates of distinct CP and host-polymer phases.
