The metal has a silvery appearance and takes on a yellow tarnish when slightly oxidized. It is chemically reactive. A relatively large piece of plutonium is warm to the touch because of the energy given off in alpha decay. Larger pieces will produce enough heat to boil water. The metal readily dissolves in concentrated hydrochloric acid, hydroiodic acid, or perchloric acid. The metal exhibits six allotropic modifications having various crystalline structures. The densities of these vary from 16.00 to 19.86 g/cms. [Pg.205]

Related studies have been made using perchloric acid. From mixtures of anhydrous nitric and perchloric acids in the appropriate proportions, Hantzsch " claimed to have isolated two salts whose structures supported his hypothesis concerning the nature of nitric acid in strong mineral acids. He represented the formation of the salts by the following... [Pg.14]

In TT-complexes formed from aromatic compounds and halogens, the halogen is not bound to any single carbon atom but to the 7r-electron structure of the aromatic, though the precise geometry of the complexes is uncertain. The complexes with silver ions also do not have the silver associated with a particular carbon atom of the aromatic ring, as is shown by the structure of the complex from benzene and silver perchlorate. ... [Pg.117]

The fire department blamed the accident on welders cutting in hazardous areas without a fire watch, highly combustible structural components (fiber-glass-resin), high-density storage of highly flammable and detonable material, spilled ammonium perchlorate about the plant, and high w ind conditions. [Pg.258]

The above assumes that C protonation is not excluded for steric reasons. Thus N protonation takes place with derivatives of dehydroquinuclidine and the alkaloids neostrychnine and trimethylconkurchine (( ). N protonation was also believed to occur in the case of 2-N-hexamethyleneimino-bicyclo[l,2,2]-2-heptene, which was believed to give the nortricyclene derivative (6) on protonation with perchloric acid. Later work, however, showed the salt to be the results of C protonation (15) and to have structure 7. [Pg.117]

A recent adaptation of the procedure employing perchlorate and fluoro-borate salts has been reported by Leonard and Paukstelis (J5). This report includes proof of structure by direct comparison to iminium salts prepared by protonation of enamines. The general reaction reported was that of a ketone or aldehyde with a secondary amine perchlorate to give iminium salts. A large structural variety of carbonyl compounds and several amine... [Pg.176]

Another class of nucleophilic addition to iminium salts can be found in the addition of diazoalkanes. These are of great interest since they were known to add and then reaet further to form three-membered rings as in the case of C=S, C=0, and C=C functions 103). Leonard and Jann 104-106) found that treatment of iminium perchlorates with diazomethane and other diazoalkanes yielded aziridinium salts. Treatment of an iminium salt such as N-cyclohexylidinepyrrolidinium perchlorate (66) with diazomethane yielded a new product whose structure was established by spectral and chemical means to be 5-azoniadispiro[4.0.5.1]dodecane perchlorate (67). The UV spectrum was devoid of any absorption above... [Pg.192]

Alkyl derivatives such as 1,4-S6(NR)2 and S4(NR)4 can be synthesized by reacting S2CI2 with primary amines RNH2 in an inert solvent. Compounds such as 1,4-S2(NR)4 (R = —C02Et) are now also well characterized. The bis-adduct [Ag(S4N4H4)2]" " has been isolated as its perchlorate this has a sandwich-like structure and is unique in being S-bonded rather than N-bonded to the metal ion. ... [Pg.736]

Ti in [Ti(> 2-Cl04)4] and Ni" in [Ni(>j -C104)L2] where L is a chiral bidenlate organic ligand.Sometimes both and modes occur in the same compound. The biden-latc bridging mode occurs in the silver complex [Ag /x,>j -00(0)20- (m-xylene)2]- The structure of appropriate segments of some of these compounds arc in Fig. 17.23. The distinction between coordinated and non-coordinaied ( ionic ) perchlorate is sometimes hard to make and there is an almost continuous... [Pg.869]

II, C,Praill and Whitear obtained a crystalline perchlorate from acetic anhydride and perchloric acid on standing it proved to possess structure 218 and to undergo isomerization to 219 under the influence of water. The same products can be obtained on acetylating dehydroaeetic acid. [Pg.325]
