Pentachlorides physical properties

Oleoyl chloride has been prepared by treatment of oleic acid with thionyl chloride,3 phosphorus trichloride or pentachloride, and oxalyl chloride.4 The highest yield (86%) reported was secured by use of oxalyl chloride in carbon tetrachloride, but the more economical phosphorus trichloride gave a yield of 60%. The standard procedures for obtaining aliphatic acid chlorides have been described many times without inclusion of details other than physical properties. Only references to the procedures useful in the laboratory are given. [Pg.36]

Elemental composition Mo 35.12%, Cl 64.88%. Molybdenum pentachloride may be identified from its physical properties and the products it forms in various reactions. The molybdenum content may be measured by flame or fur-nace-AA or ICP/AES measurement following digestion with nitric acid and appropriate dilution. [Pg.597]

Chlorination of ferroniobium has been carried out by the U.K. Atomic Energy Authority first at the Culcheth Laboratories and later at Spring-fields, in a development plant with a capacity of about 1 tonne/annum. As with some other chlorination processes, the design and operation of plant for the reaction with chlorine itself is relatively easy, and a major proportion of the effort must be devoted to the production of the niobium pentachloride or trichloride in a pure state. In this case the problem is made particularly difficult by the presence of a high proportion of tantalum in the ferroniobium, an element which beairs a very close resemblance to niobium in its chemical properties. The physical properties of its compounds are also similar to the corresponding niobium compounds. [Pg.58]

Poly-/>-phenylene (PPP), after doping with a mixture of antimony pentachloride and chlorosulfonic acid, had a greatly increased electrical conductivity due to the formation of a charge-transfer complex. The term doping refers to the addition of an impurity to a material to enhance its physical properties. [Pg.247]

Elemental composition Ta 50.50%, Cl 49.50%. Tantalum content in an acid extract (HF-HNO3 extract) can be determined by various instrumental techniques. The pentachloride is hydrolyzed to HCl, which can be measured by acid-base titration. Also, the compound can be identified from its physical and x-ray properties. [Pg.911]
