Penicillium vermiculatum

The second member of the diolide group whose structure became known is vermiculine (56), an antimicrobial metabolite of Penicillium vermiculatum The structure of 56 is extremely similar to pyrenophorin, differing only in the replacement of the methyl side chains by acetone units. Thus the dimerization strategy, previously outlined for pyrenophorin, was embraced in most of the existing synthetic approaches. [Pg.109]
