Physical Chemical Characterization. Thiamine, its derivatives, and its degradation products have been fully characterized by spectroscopic methods (9,10). The ultraviolet spectmm of thiamine shows pH-dependent maxima (11). H, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra show protonation occurs at the 1-nitrogen, and not the 4-amino position (12—14). The H spectmm in D2O shows no resonance for the thiazole 2-hydrogen, as this is acidic and readily exchanged via formation of the thiazole yUd (13) an important intermediate in the biochemical functions of thiamine. Recent work has revised the piC values for the two ionization reactions to 4.8 and 18 respectively (9,10,15). The mass spectmm of thiamine hydrochloride shows no molecular ion under standard electron impact ionization conditions, but fast atom bombardment and chemical ionization allow observation of both an intense peak for the patent cation and its major fragmentation ion, the pyrimidinylmethyl cation (16). 

Venezuela developed its dmg regulation system relatively early. Its first dmg-related law was issued in 1883 as the Ordinance of the Council of Physicians on Secret Medicines and Patents. Dmg laws have been revised regularly a significant number of dmg laws were adopted over the course of the 20 century. The law which established the dmg registration system— the Law on the Exercise of the Pharmacy— was passed... 

Patents have contributed to the development of innovation. In spite of the difficulty of estimating the magnitude of its impact, nobody doubts that this is the case. Yet at the same time new questions are now being raised. To what extent might other mechanisms achieve better results For the time being, this question remains unanswered. Proposals made recently by several authors are still on a theoretical and speculative level. Despite clear indications that revision is necessary, there is no obvious direction in which to work. 

When drafting or revising a patent application, keep comments, questions, and observations separate from the application itself. 

The Patent Bar was opposed to the bill unless it was revised extensively. The opposition was not selfishly motivated since the bill would create a great demand for new patent attorneys and eliminate unemployment among those in practice.
