Pasteurizers insulation

Add a boiling stick and heat the mixture to boiling, at which time the aspirin should dissolve completely. If it does not, add more water. Long boiling will hydrolyze the aspirin to salicyclic acid, mp 157-159°C. Once completely dissolved the aspirin should be allowed to crystallize slowly as the solution cools to room temperature in an insulated container. Once the tube has reached room temperature it should be cooled in ice for several minutes and then the solvent removed with a Pasteur pipette. The crystals are to be washed with a few drops of ice-cold water and then scraped out onto a piece of filter paper. Squeezing the crystals between sheets of the... [Pg.192]

In a processing plant, milk flows from a storage tank maintained at 5 C through a valve to a pasteurizer via an insulated lO-cm-diameter pipe at the rate of 1000 L/ min. The upstream pressure is 290 kPa and downstream pressure is 140 kPa. Determine the lost work ( ) in J/min and the temperature change which occurs in the milk as a result of this throttling process. (Milk and water are sufficiently equivalent in properties for you to use those of water.)... [Pg.517]

A stream of hot water at 85 C and a rate of I kg/s is needed for the pasteurizing unit in a milk-bottling plant. Such a stream is not readily available, and will be produced in a well-insulated mixing tank by directly injecting steam from the boiler plant at 10 bar and 200 C into city water available at 1 bar and 20 C. [Pg.146]
