Passion quality

This book is dedicated in memory of my father, Dante Meucci, a surgeon of rare professional and human qualities who infused my three brothers and me with the passion for science, medicine, and caring for others and to my mother, Rosaria Rago Meucci for showing me the joy of discoveries and always supporting my choices. 

While passion in any worthwhile pursuit is to be commended, passion about a process that affects the lives of many millions of people throughout the world is particularly so. Pharmaceutical products improve health and quality of life on a scale that is unrivaled by any other medical intervention. Before these drugs are prescribed by physicians, they go through an extremely rigorous process that investigates their safety and their efficacy This is the process of new drug development. 

The ability to work for the love of it, as if the company is your own. This is generally an inspiration to all around you. Such a commitment requires a complex combination of qualities, notably a personal passion for the job, wisdom, aggression, humility, creativity, a sense of humor, obsession, relentless drive, occasional ruthlessness, and the ability to stay hungry, inter alia. People working for the love of it generally have a passion to promote excellence. 

Medically this good may sometimes seem trivial, as in the avoidance of a sleepless night in a noisy hotel or of social embarrassment from a profusely running nose due to seasonal pollen allergy (hay-fever). Such benefits are not necessarily trivial to recipients, concerned to be at their best in important matters, whether of business, of pleasure or of passion, i.e. with quality of life. 

Laboissiere et al. (2007) showed that high-pressure processing (300 MPa, 5 min, 25°C) could be used to preserve yellow passion fruit pulp, yielding a ready-to-drink juice with improved sensory quality, free from cooked and artificial flavor attributes, as compared to commercial juices. High-pressure treatment did not cause any significant modifications in compounds responsible for aroma, flavor, and consistency. 

Passion is important. It comes across in the presentation of a proposal in subtle ways, but mostly it shows in the quality of the work—how thorough the groundwork was, how creatively the ideas have been transformed into a story, and how well that story is presented on paper.

Great passions may give us this quickened sense of life, ecstasy and sorrow of love, the various forms of enthusiastic activity, disinterested or otherwise, which come naturally to many of us. .. Of such wisdom, the poetic passion, the desire of beauty, the love of art for its own sake, has most. For art comes to you proposing frankly to give nothing but the highest quality to your moments as they pass, and simply for those moments sake.
