Passion of the real

As quoted earlier, Badiou describes his own brand of subtractive politics as involving, instead of an all-demolishing destructiveness driven by the passion of the real, a conscientious scrutinizing of situations in search of... 

Elsewhere, Zizek further develops this line of criticism through reference to Badiou s opposition between a politics of purification (involving forceful destructiveness) and one of subtraction as laid out in the discussion of the passion of the real in his 2005 text Le sieck (see chapter 1, section 4). He alleges that Badiou, in order to preserve a clear-cut distinction between being and event, shies away from making a clean break with passion-driven purification ... 

As we have just seen, Badiou himself is ambiguous here although he (correctly) endeavors to reassert philosophy against the post-philosophical passion of the real, he remains all too indebted to the post-philosophical topos of representation as the mystifying mirror of the productive real, of the re-presentative meta-structure as the site of the counting-as-One of the inconsistent multiplicity of presence ... 

Spigland is himself obsessed with obsessive characters. This plot of reconstructing lost footage provides him with the opportunity to explore that characteristic, to observe that love of film and love itself often fuse and, in a sense, combine. The distinction between movie life and real life blurs for the character. His structure, essentially a detective story told initially in a serious and later in a mocking tone, is both a paean to film and a mocking commentary on obsession (his and others) with film. The detective-style plot allows Spigland to freely editorialize about the purpose and passion of his main character. 

Until men make as much real progress in the practice of morals as well as in the sciences, it will be impossible for them to attain any insight into either the nature and development of the moral sentiments, the principles of morality, the natural motives that prompt their actions, or their own true interests either as individuals or as members of society. The second design, Passion (see Fig. 24.10), is an orange-shaped biscuit container with matte surface. The matte surface is to suggest similarity of this biscuit container with real orange. This container comprises a tissue paper chamber and six compartments for users to contain and sort various cookies. The transparent biscuit container lid allows users to see the cookies inside the container without opening it. As the white arrow shows, users can rotate the compartment around the tissue paper chamber to search for cookies they desire. Each of the individual compartments can be taken out easily by simply lifting it upward. Both biscuit container lid and tissue paper chamber lid are snap-fit. The tissue paper chamber lid is further customized with ftuit scent. 

Third, participants willingness to purchase the biscuit containers without considering the cost was consulted during comparison evaluation, which might be a situation closer to the real world, i.e., on the market. As shown in the last part of Table 24.5, the design concepts have significant effects on the participants purchasing decision. Desire and Sharkie would be purchased by most of the participants, followed by Mushy and Passion .
