Common featiires in the translational and processing maps of picornaviral protein HRV-1A, human rhinovirus 1A poliovirus and EMC, encephalomyocarditis virus (after Butterworth, 9) Polypeptides with similar masses and pactamycin mapping positions are evident with all three viruses. The lateral position represents the relative location of the corresponding gene locus on the viral BNA (the 5 -end of the ENA is to the left). The vertical position represents precursor-product relationships or alternative cleavage forms. Line lengths are proportional to mass. [Pg.115]

The position of p13 on the pactamycin map (9) locates it near the midpoint of the polyprotein and argues against it being the product of a second short (30 kR or less) cistron whose product should map near the far left. Hence pi 3 is most likely located between pi 46 and p84 (Figure 6). [Pg.120]
