Packaging applications overview

Welcome to the Second Edition of Film Properties of Plastics and Elastomers A Guide to Non-Wovens in Packaging Applications. This edition presents an overview of film properties, including physical, optical, electrical, and permeation properties, as well as regulatory information where relevant to the use of different materials presented. These material chapters present the quantitative data in tabular and graphical formats accompanied by a qualitative discussion regarding the general film properties and film applications.

This paper presents a few examples of applications of the program package called the Consistent Force Field (CFF). The program has been extensively described in the literature (1-2), as has the strategy of its use (3-4), but a short overview may be pertinent here.

ARTHUR Infometrix, 2200 Sixth Ave. 833, Seattle, Wash. 98121, USA cca 7000. This package of Fortran programs has been developed at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Washington, Seattle. For many years it was the most widely used program for PCA and other pattern recognition applications in chemistry. ARTHUR has been written for mainframe computers, but also PC-versions are used (e.g. TNO CIVO Institute, P.O.Box 360, NL-3700 AJ Zeist, The Netherlands). An overview of ARTHUR is given in Wolff and Parsons (ref. 14).
