Isophthalic (m-phthalic) acid [121-91-5] (IPA) is selected to enhance thermal endurance as well as to produce stronger, more resihent cross-hnked plastics that demonstrate improved resistance to chemical attack. Terephthahc (p-phthalic) acid [100-21-0] (TA) provides similar properties as isophthahc acid it is also used in corrosion resinstance and a wide variety of other apphcations.

The differences between the ionic liquids and tetrabutyl ammonium bromide on the separation of o-phthalic acid, m-phthalic acid, and p-phthalic acid have been compared. The results indicated that ionic liquids act as ion-pair reagents, although their hydrophobicity and hydrogen bonding also play important roles (12).
