Thermal analysis ozonides

Different isomers of C qO have been prepared by photooxygenation [48], by MCPBA-oxidation [48], by ozonolysis [49] or they were extracted from fullerene soot [11, 50]. Isolation from fullerene soot and analysis of the product of photooxygenation and thermal ozonolysis yields only [6,6]-closed epoxide structures. As already observed for CgoO, ozonolysis and subsequent photolysis of the ozonide C7QO3 gives different [5,6]-open oxidoannulene structures [49]. 

In order to avoid problems with thermal labile compounds during TD-GC analysis and to get a fast and gentle sampling and analysis technique a new air sampling ASE cell was developed by N0rgaard et al. (2006). The air sampling ASE cell has successfully been used to show the existence of ozonides in reaction mixtures of ozone and limonene. 

A number of low molecular weight products, for example, benzaldehyde, formic acid, formaldehyde, phenylglyoxal, phenylglyoxalic acid, and carbon dioxide, were identified among the products of thermal decomposition of the ozonides. A determination of the detailed structure of the polymer is possible from the qualitative analysis of these decomposition products.
