Many workers have used iodometric methods for the determination of concentrations of ozone in the range of several per cent by volume and higher. They have investigated the stoichiometry by comparison of the amounts of iodine liberated with the amounts of ozone determined by physical measurements of gas density or pressure change. Thus Lechner (5) found that both neutral and alkaline (0.2A potassium hydroxide) potassium iodide (0.2M) absorbed ozone efficiently and yielded the same amount of iodine, equivalent to one oxygen atom in the ozone molecule. This... [Pg.93]

The quantity of sodium thiosulfate in each chamber is titrated by a coulometric production of iodine from the iodide solution with a current which passes through a separate pair of production electrodes. This method of determining sodium thiosulfate has been used for some time by Ehmert ( ) in a manual method for ozone determination. [Pg.124]

Optical methods of ozone determination may be combined with the chemical types in one way or another. For example, Littman and Marynowski 28) improved and modified a method earlier employed by Paneth and Edgar S ) using a silica gel to absorb the ozone gas from the atmosphere. Afterward the ozone was flushed into an optical cell, where its concentration was measured in terms of its ultraviolet absorption as compared with that resulting from known concentrations of synthetic ozone-oxygen mixtures. [Pg.283]

Preliminary to biological investigations, a study was needed on the chemistry and kinetics of ozone solutions and an evaluation of the analytical techniques of ozone mensuration under conditions appropriate to this problem. The detailed results of these studies have been presented (4). Ozone solutions at 1° C. and pH 2(0.01iV sulfuric acid) are relatively stable, demonstrating little decomposition over a period of 8 hours. The analytical method of choice for ozone determination in such solution was the ferrous ion method of analysis, in which the ferrous ion, as Fe(NH4)2(S04)2 6H2O, is oxidized to the ferric state and then the excess is back-titrated with potassium permanganate. [Pg.370]

The data on ozone determination methods and continuous automatic determination of Oj have been collected [26]. [Pg.316]

For an objective consideration on the enthalpy changes it is neeessary to normalize A/f values with respeet to the amount of consumed ozone (G). It is distributed on the whole mass of the ozonated sample. The whole mass is a sum of the mass of nonozonated rubber and mass of the incorporated in diene macromolecules oxygen atoms, grouped as a moles ozone. Determination of the amounts of the incorporated ozone in rubber samples is performed in [43], The corresponding values of the coefficient of incorporation of ozone (c. ), defined as a ratio of the amounts of incorporated (G ) and consumed (G) ozone is Presented in Table 10.6. Using A//j values and ratio of the functional group, deduced from the NMR spectra, the enthalpy of the ozonide thermal decomposition (AH has been evaluated. The data of Table 10.6 clearly show tendency of increasing of AH values with the number of alkyl substituents of the ozonides. [Pg.302]

This fluorescent dyestuff chemiluminesces on treatment with ozone in the hquid phase [37] as well as when adsorbed on silica gel [38]. This latter method has been improved by rendering the surface of the silica-gel hydrophobic [39]. It appears to be the most sensitive method available at present for ozone determination with 1 p.p.b. reported as detectable. [Pg.170]
