Ozonation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAEls) in the unsaturated soils is one of the advanced technologies for soil treatment. The PAEls are resistant to typical in situ remediation technologies including soil flushing and bioremediation. Ozonation of PAHs in soils is used for overcoming these limitations. In situ ozonation is based on the delivery of gaseous ozone molecules to contaminated media to destroy the contaminants by converting them into innocuous compounds commonly found in nature.
