These peaks are shown to reasonably account for the asymmetry in the C-ls spectra of the carbon surfaces. These data lead us to believe that the assigned peaks are reasonable to a first approximation, and correspond to the carbon-oxygen functional groups indicated in Table III. Chiral crown ethers of the 18-crown-6 type can resolve amino acids as well as primary amines with a close neighbourhood of amino function and the centre of asymmetry. The interaction occurs between the amino protons and the crown ether oxygens. The group R and R of the crown ether need to be large and rigid, e.g. binaphthyls, in order to force the small guest molecules into a well-defined interaction with the host. [Pg.307]
