Oxidizing agents thallium

Thallium (1) salts are oxidized only by very powerful oxidizing agents, eg, MnO or Cl, iu acid solutions. The properties of the more important thallium compounds are Hsted in Table 2. [Pg.468]

Alkenes can also be oxidized with metallic acetates such as lead tetraacetate or thallium(III) acetate " to give bis-acetates of glycols. Oxidizing agents such as benzoquinone, Mn02, or 02, along with palladium acetate, have been used to convert conjugated dienes to l,4-diacetoxy-2-alkenes (1,4 addition). ... [Pg.1051]

There is much else which could be said about the properties of thallium(II) in aqueous solution, but there is not time to cover those here. Perhaps an interesting point to mention, however, is that it is a powerful oxidizing agent. In 1 M... [Pg.139]

Nitrates. Thallous nitrate, a convenient source of other thallium(I) derivatives, eg, halides, is prepared from the reaction of the pure metal with dilute nitric acid (9). The solid is stable to 300°C and decomposes at 800°C to Tl O, NO, and N02. Thallic nitrate is obtained as a trihydrate upon dissolving T Oj in cold nitric acid. It decomposes to T C on heating to 100°C or upon hydrolysis. Thallic nitrate, soluble in alcohols and ethers of polyethylene glycols, is often used as an oxidizing agent in oiganic syntheses. [Pg.469]

The year under review has witnessed the isolation and structural elucidation of no less than nine new aporphines, as well as of five aporphine-benzylisoquinoline dimers. Two of these five aporphine-benzylisoquinolines, namely kalashine and khyberine, are the first such dimers known to be substituted at C-l 1 of the aporphine moiety. Thallium(m) trifluoroacetate is an oxidizing agent which effects the cyclization of tetrahydrobenzylisoquinolines to aporphines in satisfactory yields.1 A listing of aporphinoid alkaloids has appeared.2... [Pg.135]

Oxidation of enamines derived from cyclic and acyclic ketones with thallium triacetate in equivalent amount leads to the formation of the corresponding 2-acetoxy ketones75 (Scheme 52). The reactions are stereoselective (the antiparallel attack of the oxidizing agent is preferred over a parallel attack on 3- and 4-/-butylcyclohexanone enamines) and the attack occurs preferentially at the tetrasubstituted enamine double bond, when there is more than one possibility due to isomerism. [Pg.947]

A homogeneous catalyst exists in the same phase as the reactants. Ceric ion, Ce4+, at one time was an important laboratory oxidizing agent that was used in many redox titrations (Section 11-8). For example, Ce + oxidizes thallium(I) ions in solution this reaction is catalyzed by the addition of a very small amount of a soluble salt containing manganese(II) ions, Mn +. The Mn + acts as a homogeneous catalyst. [Pg.689]

Thallium(lll) is a strong oxidizing agent with capabilities of complex formation and protolyzation ([TI ][OH = (Seidell, 1958). The compounds of trivalent... [Pg.502]
