Examples of postprocess systems under evaluation include surface oxidation using ozone, hydrogen peroxide, or nitric acid. Such approaches are used in the production of conductive blacks. Reaction with diazonium salts, plasma treatment, and polymer grafting are also under investigation. [Pg.437]

Ozone. Ozone is an allotropic form of oxygen, O. Because it is an unstable gas, it must be generated at the point of use. Ozone is an effective, clean oxidizing agent possessing powerful antibacterial and antiviral properties. [Pg.272]

Oxidation of Straight-Chain 1-Olefins. Oxidation of a-olefins has been thoroughly studied using ozone, peracids, nitric acid, chromic acid, and others. [Pg.92]

Processing ndProperties. Neoprene has a variety of uses, both in latex and dry mbber form. The uses of the latex for dipping and coating have already been indicated. The dry mbber can be handled in the usual equipment, ie, mbber mills and Banbury mixers, to prepare various compounds. In addition to its excellent solvent resistance, polychloroprene is also much more resistant to oxidation or ozone attack than natural mbber. It is also more resistant to chemicals and has the additional property of flame resistance from the chlorine atoms. It exhibits good resiUence at room temperature, but has poor low temperature properties (crystallization). An interesting feature is its high density (1.23) resulting from the presence of chlorine in the chain this increases the price on a volume basis. [Pg.470]

It was not their reactivity but their chemical inertness that was the true surprise when diazirines were discovered in 1960. Thus they are in marked contrast to the known linear diazo compounds which are characterized by the multiplicity of their reactions. For example, cycloadditions were never observed with the diazirines. Especially surprising is the inertness of diazirines towards electrophiles. Strong oxidants used in their synthesis like dichromate, bromine, chlorine or hypochlorite are without action on diazirines. Diazirine formation may even proceed by oxidative dealkylation of a diaziridine nitrogen in (186) without destruction of the diazirine ring (75ZOR2221). The diazirine ring is inert towards ozone simple diazirines are decomposed only by more than 80% sulfuric acid (B-67MI50800). [Pg.220]

Oxidation of phenols with chlorine dioxide or chlorine produces chlorinated aromatic intermediates before ring rupture. Oxidation of phenols with either chlorine dioxide or ozone produces oxidized aromatic compounds as intermediates which undergo ring rupture upon treatment with more oxidant and/or longer reaction times. In many cases, the same nonchlorinated, ringruptured aliphatic products are produced using ozone or chlorine dioxide. [Pg.473]

CIS- And trans-1,2-difluoroethylene are oxidized by ozone stereoselectively to a mixture of the corresponding epoxides and ozonides with formyl fluoride The composition of the mixture depends on the solvent used [25] (equation 16)... [Pg.327]

Little work has been reported on the oxidation of sulphoxides using ozone, one notable exception being the nearly quantitative reaction producing the sulphone in chloroform solution at 0°C27. [Pg.972]

Ozonation treatment can be used to oxidize cyanide, thereby reducing the concentration of cyanide in wastewater. Ozone, with an electrode potential of +1.24 V in alkaline solutions, is one of the most powerful oxidizing agents known. Cyanide oxidation with ozone is a two-step reaction similar to alkaline chlorination.22 Cyanide is oxidized to cyanate, with ozone reduced to oxygen as per the following equation ... [Pg.371]
