Diazonium salts, reaction with

Recently Spande and Glenner (376) reinvestigated the reaction of 3-substituted indole derivatives with diazonium salts. In earlier work, it was proposed that the reaction of diazotized sulfanilic acid with tryptophan takes place at the 3-position. On the other hand, reaction of skatole with diazotized arsanilic acid was assumed to give a 2-substituted derivative, solely by analogy to the pyrroles (259, 395). [Pg.371]

When skatole was treated with the diazonium salt derived from /7-nitro-c)-anisidine (Fast Red B) in 50% aqueous dioxan at pH 3.0 a crystalline 1 1 azo compound (199) was isolated in 66% yield. An [Pg.371]

This reaction constitutes the first example of indole ring cleavage by the action of a diazonium ion. [Pg.371]

For aryl halides and sulfonates, even active ones, a unimolecular SnI mechanism (lUPAC Dn+An) is very rare it has only been observed for aryl triflates in which both ortho positions contain bulky groups (fe/T-butyl or SiRs). It is in reactions with diazonium salts that this mechanism is important ... [Pg.853]

Coupling reactions with diazonium salts to yield intensely colored azo derivatives have often been used for the detection of phenols, primary aromatic amines and electron-rich heterocyclics. [Pg.55]
