3-Oxa-l,5-pentanediol

Chemical DesignationsBis(2-hydroxyethyl)ether Diglycol y, / -Dihydroxydiethyl Ether 3-Oxa-l,5-pentanediol 2,2 -Oxybisethanol Chemical Formula (HOCH2CH2)jO. [Pg.124]

In general, ethers are low on the scale of chemical reactivity because the carbon-oxygen bond is not cleaved readily. For this reason ethers frequently are employed as inert solvents in organic synthesis. Particularly important in this connection are diethyl ether, diisopropyl ether, tetrahydrofuran, and 1,4-dioxane. The mono- and dialkyl ethers of 1,2-ethanediol, 3-oxa-l,5-pentanediol, and related substances are useful high-boiling solvents. Unfortunately, their trade names are not very rational. Abbreviated names are in... [Pg.654]

Melt-spun PET always contains small concentrations of copolymerized diethylene glycol (3-oxa-l,5-pentanediol). The major mode of formation of these ether linkages does not apparently take place through a simple dehydration reaction between two glycol molecules, catalysed by traces of acidic impurities or by the free carboxylic acid of terephthalic acid (TA) or its proton. The reaction appears to involve the ester linkage [41]. In addition to diethylene glycol moieties, some dioxan (about one-tenth the proportion of diethylene glycol) was also produced. The rate of formation of these ether compounds was proportional to the concentration of hydroxyl and ester, with a rate coefficient k of about 33... [Pg.501]

OXA-l,5-PENTANEDIOL (111-46-6) Combustible liquid (flash point 255 F/124°C). Vigorous reaction with strong oxidizers. Incompatible with aliphatic amines, amides, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, caustics, isocyanates. [Pg.904]
