Other plastic shaping techniques of traditional ceramics

Other plastic shaping techniques of traditional ceramics [Pg.183]

In these two processes, the paste previously homogerrized and deaerated by extrusion is placed on a mold (metallic or porous). In the case of pressing, the paste flows between the two parts of the mold during applying pressure until the desired thickness is obtained. The part is then separated, generally pneumatically from the mold. In the case of roller jiggering, it is the rotary tool that plastically deforms the [Pg.183]

The defects observed with these shaping techniques are similar to those associated with extmsion (section 5.6.5.1). We can add to these other flaws such as the tearing off of the paste and of surface appearance in the roller technique, if the speed of the rotating part of the mold or its surface quality are not suitable, or its lubrication has not been done correctly. Lastly, the part can be subjected to a differential drying between the core and its sttrface dining the shaping stage, which can result in the appearance of cracks. [Pg.184]
