Other Metal Silicon Nitrides and Oxynitrides

Three compounds have been identified in the system Y-Si-N these are YSisNs, Y2Si3Ns and Y3Si6Nn (Ekstrom et al. 1997). These phases have been produced by a carbothermal process and their Si and Y NMR spectra reported (Table 4.6). 

A range of silicon oxynitrides is also formed with heavy elements such as yttrium and lanthanum. The yttrium compounds include Y2S1303N4 (N-melilite), Y4Si207N2 (N-YAM or J-phase), Y5Si30 2N and YSiOaN. The Si NMR shifts of these 

The resonances of Si-C bonds occur at significantly lower fields than Si-O and Si-N, allowing ready differentiation of these speeies.
