Ozone can be analyzed by titrimetry, direct and colorimetric spectrometry, amperometry, oxidation—reduction potential (ORP), chemiluminescence, calorimetry, thermal conductivity, and isothermal pressure change on decomposition. The last three methods ate not frequently employed. Proper measurement of ozone in water requites an awareness of its reactivity, instabiUty, volatility, and the potential effect of interfering substances. To eliminate interferences, ozone sometimes is sparged out of solution by using an inert gas for analysis in the gas phase or on reabsorption in a clean solution. Historically, the most common analytical procedure has been the iodometric method in which gaseous ozone is absorbed by aqueous KI. [Pg.503]

ORP Oxidation reduction potential - the degree of completion of a chemical reaction by detecting the ratio of ions in the reduced form to those in the oxidized form as a variation in electrical potential measured by an ORP electrode assembly. OSHA The Williams-Steiger Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSHA) is a law designed to protect the health and safety of industrial workers and treatment plant operators. It regulates the design, construction, operation and maintenance of industrial plants and wastewater treatment plants. The Act does not apply directly... [Pg.620]

Tlie DOE Office of Environmental Safety and Health distributes monthly summaries ba.scd on data retreived from the DOE Occurrence Reporting and Processing System (ORPS) to share chemical safety concerns throughout the industry to alert operators of similar processes. In addition quarterly and annual reviews feature lessons learned from ORPS by trending analyses of ini an... [Pg.159]

November 14, 1987, three people were killed when two explosions and a tire caused extensive damage to the Hoechst Celanese acetic acid and acetic anhydride plant located near Pampa, ( X. Benzyl and alkyl tnalkylsilyl ethers undergo clean fluonnation to give good yields of benzyl and alkyl fluorides, respectively, when reacted with a combination of d quaternary ammonium fluoride and methanesulfonyl orp- toluenesulfonyl fluoride. The reactions are applicable strictly to a primary carbon-oxygen bond, secondary and tertiary alkyl silyl ethers remain intact or, under forcing conditions, aie dehydrated to olefins [29] (equation 22)... [Pg.208]

Another important component of Table 18 is substituent chemical shift (SCS) datadenvedforeachoftheSlentnes The SCS is simply thedifferencein F-NMR chemical shifts of the substituted compounds and that of unsubstituted fluoroben zene (-113 5 ppm in CDCI3) These values numerically represent the mfluence a substituent has on the shieldmg or deshieldmg of the fluorine nucleus and depend upon substituent position o, m, orp) Fluonne chemical shifts can be predicted for polysubstituted fluorobenzene systems simply by addmg the SCS value of each substituent to a base value of -113 5 ppm... [Pg.1063]
