Orientation treatment

Chick et al. (2003) conducted a meta-analysis that included data from 15 studies of acamprosate in an effort to determine whether acamprosate reduces the severity of relapse for patients in abstinence-oriented treatment who fail to abstain completely. Among patients who relapsed to drinking, acamprosate was significantly associated with less quantity and frequency of drinking, compared with placebo, at each of four follow-up periods (i.e., at 30, 90, 180, and 360 treatment days). During each of these periods, there were also fewer acamprosate-treated patients who drank an average of five or more drinks per day. 

There is an abundance of recent literature on the chemical modification of proteins. The laboratory-oriented treatment of the subject in Methods in Enzymology, vol. XI (Hirs 1967) and vol. XXVB (Hirs and Timasheff 1972) is particularly comprehensive and valuable. A monograph by Means and Feeney (1971) is also an excellent source of references and methods. 

Finally, when primary anxiety or panic symptoms are resolved, many panic disorder patients often choose to pursue more traditional psychotherapy. As mentioned earlier, a number of panic patients have encoimtered major losses and must begin the journey of working through these major life changes. In our experience, however, insight-oriented treatment typically must await the resolution of primary panic symptoms.

The theory and practice or ellipsometry has been comprehensively treated by Azzam and Bashara. A more practically oriented treatment can be found in two more recent books, which serve as a better starting point for the intending practitioner. The following brief synopsis can only serve to highlight the main points or the technique. 

Wilhelmy tensiometry was performed on MGDG and PLPC monolayers as detailed elsewhere [1]. Monolayer molarity was well below the CMC which ordinarily would preclude MGDG monolayer orientation. Treatments were as seen in Figure 2. To prevent O2 >02 conversion, the former was applied in a crown-ether caged form of KO2 [1]. Lipoxygenase (LOX) was assayed on 14-day-old plants which were sprayed twice weekly with 10 or 10 M SNAP in 0.01 M phosphate buffer pH 6.5, containing 10 M CaCl2 and 0.01 % Tween 20. Controls were sprayed with buffer alone. LOX assay was that of Pinsky et al. [6].
