Organophosphorus pesticides intoxication

In two cases of moderate intoxication from mevinphos, urinary excretion of dimethylphos-phate (a metabolite of mevinphos) was almost complete 50 hours after exposure/ Although a number of other organophosphorus pesticides also yield dimethyl phosphate, the presence of significant amounts of this metabolite in the urine may be useful in estimating the absorption of mevinphos. 

The pharmacology of the organophosphorus cholinesterase inhibitors has many facets. Much has been discovered concerning their mode of action and the therapeutic measures to be adopted in the event of intoxication by these compounds. Accepting the specificity of the antidotes used in these therapies, laboratory studies with them may indicate the principal locus of the toxic effects of the organophosphates.
