The developments over the past few years in the understanding of organometallic mechanisms and structure has led to a new generation of catalysts for the polymerization of cyclic olefins by the ring opening metathesis mechanism. These catalysts provide the means to control molecular weight and molecular weight distribution and to introduce functionality into polyolefins. 

It would have been impossible to produce a book on modern arene chemistry without Jay Kochi s physical organic-organometallic vision of the area. His work on charge transfer involving arenes, inspired by Mulliken s ideas, is unique and deep, and has considerable impact on our understanding of organic and organometallic mechanisms. This is indeed the theme of his chapter (No. 13) prepared with his co-author S. V. Rosokha (Houston).

The rather vague arrows on the middle two diagrams are the best we can do to show how Pd(0) uses its electrons to get rid of the leaving group and how it accepts them back again when the nucleophile adds. They are not perfect but it is often difficult to draw precise arrows for organometallic mechanisms. The double inversion process is perhaps more apparent in a perspective view.
