Organocopper reagents alkynyl

Here an alkynyl sulfoxide 55 is first carbocuprated with an organocopper reagent 56 to provide a vinylcopper intermediate 57, which is then zinc homologated with the primary zinc sp3-carbenoid 58 to yield the allylzinc intermediate 59. This, in a spontaneous syw-/)-climination, gives the corresponding allene 60. This protocol could also be adopted to the preparation of chiral allenes. 

Similar to the addition reactions of acceptor-substituted dienes (Scheme 16), the outcome of the transformation depends on the regioselectivity of the nucleophilic attack of the organocopper reagent (1,4- vs. 1,6-addition) and of the electrophilic capture of the enolate formed. The allenyl enolate obtained by 1,6-addition can afford either a conjugated diene or an allene upon reaction with a soft electrophile, and thus opens up the possibility to create axial chirality. Cross-coupling with Organocopper Reagents. HexasUylbi-cyclo[2.2.2]octan-l-yl copper, prepared from tbe treatment of hexasilylbicyclo[2.2.2]octan-l-yl lithium with copper(T) iodide in THF, reacts with (iodoethynyl)trimethylsilane (eq 6) in the presence of pyridine to afford the alkynyl-substituted polysilacage compound. ...

We have found that alkynylsilanes are smoothly converted into alkynylcopper compounds by treatment with CuCl in l,3-dimethyl-2-imidazohdinone (DMI) the copper reagents can be isolated in good yields [563]. This study was the first example of preparation and isolation of organocopper compounds by use of organosilicon reagents. The Si-Cu transmetalation is applicable to the synthesis of alkynyl ketones by Cu-catalyzed alkynylation of acid chlorides (Scheme 10.217). We have also shown that a Cu-mediated system is effective in the cross-coupling reaction between arylsilanes or heteroarylsilanes and aryl hahdes [564].
