Organocopper compounds conjugate

As in the case of addition reactions of carbon nucleophiles to activated dienes (Section HA), organocopper compounds are the reagents of choice for regio- and stereoselective Michael additions to acceptor-substituted enynes. Substrates bearing an acceptor-substituted triple bond besides one or more conjugated double bonds react with organocuprates under 1,4-addition exclusively (equation 51)138-140 1,6-addition reactions which would provide allenes after electrophilic capture were not observed (cf. Section IV). 

The synthetic application of organocopper compounds received a major impetus from the study of the catalytic effect of copper salts on reactions of Grignard reagents with y.,(i-unsaturated ketones.1 Whereas Grignard reagents normally add to conjugated enones to give the 1,2-addition product, the presence of catalytic amounts of Cu(I) results in... 

Organocopper reagents are the most reliable species for conjugate additions and a number of approaches towards chiral cuprates has been developed. The approaches are classified into two categories one is the chiral heterocuprate obtained by treatment with chiral alcohols, amines, sulfonamides, and thiols. The other involves organocopper compounds coordinated by chiral external ligands such as phosphines, sulfides, and oxazolines. 

Copper tends to form more stable organocopper compounds with acetylene compounds than with aryl compounds. The synthetic reaction of acetylenic compounds with copper or copper salt, e.g., the Cadiot-Chodkiewics and Glaser reactions are well known. The Cadiot-Chodkiewics reaction is a reaction where I-bromoalkyne easily reacts with a terminal alkyne in the presence of a catalytic amount of a cuprous salt or amines to afford conjugate diacetylene compounds in high yield [43].
